Gutenberg 2.0 Course Outline

Gutenberg 2.0 is a 10-part online professional development program for book publishing professionals, developed and offered by the Organization of Book Publishers of Ontario in partnership with Humber College.

This course will help book publishing professionals manage the risks and opportunities brought on by technological disruption through the teaching of new technologies, business models, and best practices in electronic publishing.

It will help book publishers manage the coming transitional period and transform their businesses to take advantage of this new era and its technologies. Using experts and specialists from across North America, the course will build the knowledge infrastructure that publishers need to survive and grow in this changing environment.

 

Gutenberg 2.0 Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify new technologies and their potential uses in book publishing
  • Implement non-traditional book distribution systems
  • Analyze technological disruptions currently affecting the book industry
  • Describe the elements of Web 2.0 and their application in book publishing
  • Prepare effective marketing plans in this digitized environment
  • Analyze alternative business models for book publishing companies

Evaluation: Passing mark in this course is 60%.
