Session 8: Selling Online (The Long Tail Theory – Overview and the Role of Producers, Creators, and Mavens)

This session will introduce participants to evolving sales models for both physical books and digital book content in an online environment. It will include an introduction to the basic concepts of The Long Tail Theory (the colloquial name for a long-known feature of statistical distributions). As Long Tail business models become more prevalent, the role of the publisher, author, media, and reader will be foreshortened and the boundaries between them will become blurred. This session will examine how these changes may affect the selling of books.
